What is visualization?

Visualization is a mental technique that uses the imagination to create what we want in life. This powerful line might throw some light and it has been observed by many great writers that “Great leaders are great dreamers.” Therefore, if used in the right way, visualization can help us achieve success and prosperity, and improve our life. Our mind is very powerful, and visualization uses our mind to achieve success.

People use visualization everyday, but they are unaware about it.

Visualization is a process similar to day dreaming. For example, if someone has a great desire to own a beautiful house, and he continuously visualizes the type of house he wants, he will attract the house into his life.

It may sound like magic, but visualization is only a natural process of the power of thoughts. In other words, visualization works such that the dominating thoughts of one’s mind will be taken as instruction by the subconscious mind, which will invoke persistent and continuous action to reproduce themselves through outward physical action directed at realising the dominant thought.

The dominating thought is strongly backed by burning desire and that drives one to focus all energy towards its attainment.

People become successful because they use the power of visualization, whether consciously or unconsciously. Whether knowingly or not, visualization of the desired outcome is key to attaining it.

How and why does visualization work?

Visualization uses concentration and power on a dominant thought. A thought has magnetic energy which attracts other energy of a similar nature. Every event in our lives, and all our possessions, started by a simple thought.

We can see this principle at work when, for example, someone thinks continuously about a friend and they accidentally meet their friend or they get a call or an email from them. The power of visualization will have been at work.

By having a thought, and constantly holding that thought in our mind, we attract and create that thought physically through visualization. If you think constantly that you are ill, you will attract illness.

If you think that you are happy, then you will definitely attract happiness. Therefore conscious visualization of what we want in life can help us manifest it in our lives. This is the power of visualization.

How do we use visualization?

There are different techniques of visualization, two of them are as follows:

Visualization technique #1: Create goal pictures

Create a picture of yourself with your goal, as if it were already achieved. If your goal is to own a big house, find a picture of the house that you desire and put a picture of yourself into the picture. If this visualization technique works for you, great! Otherwise try visualization technique #2.

Visualization technique #2: Use affirmations

An affirmation is a statement that evokes a picture and the experience of already having what you want. With this visualization technique, affirmations should be repeated several times a day.

This keeps a person focused on his goal, strengthens his motivation and programs the person’s subconscious mind into achieving his goal. Affirmations are very powerful when used with visualization.

How successful is visualization?

There are 3 elements within you that determine how successful visualization will be for you:

Desire – the depth of feeling for what you are seeking through visualization. Belief – the more you believe in your chosen goal and the possibility of attaining it, the greater the likelihood of successfully achieving it through visualization Acceptance – You must be willing to accept and have that for which you use visualization.

It may appear difficult to believe but simply by changing your thinking pattern you can achieve anything you desire in your life. As you intentionally attempt to change your thinking one of the most important steps is to match your thoughts with your actions.

When it is done properly you discipline yourself to do whatever is required to achieve your goals. Idle visualization will not lead to achievement of goals.

Overcoming Limited Thinking

Visualization can achieve great things, but for every person there are some areas, which he might find hard to change, at least in the immediate future. The power of visualization is a great power, but there are some limits to using it. These limits are within us, not in the power. We often limit ourselves and cannot look beyond a limited circle. We limit ourselves by our thoughts and beliefs.

The more open-minded we can be, and the bigger we can think, the greater are our opportunities and possibilities. Limitations are within our minds, and it is up to us to rise above them. It may take some time until things start to change. Simple, small demonstrations of the power of visualization may come fast, but bigger results may need a longer time to happen. All that we require is patience and belief.
